Farm Exhibitions 2000


Central Canada Exhibition - Ottawa
August 17-27
Under the theme “The Way It Was”, the Central Canada Exhibition will be adding more agricultural content for 2000, providing programs in the Pure Country Pavilion, formerly known as the Aberdeen Building, and the Commerce Building, entitled the “Agriplex” for this year’s events. The highlight of the fair will be an 11-day 4H program featuring competitions, displays and demonstrations from 11 eastern Ontario counties. It’s all part of SuperEx 2000.

Canadian National Exhibition - Toronto
August 18-September 4
A rural retreat in the heart of downtown Toronto, the CNE will offer a variety of displays, demonstrations and activities, from the popular Garden Show to “A Walk in the Country”, a replica working farm featuring farm animals and the popular milking and sheep shearing events. Children will get an opportunity to get hands-on experience with a chance of being “Farmer for a Day”, and “A Taste of the Country” will provide visitors with lots of food options, including demonstrations in the kitchen theatre.

Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show – Woodstock
September 12, 13, 14
It’s one-stop shopping for farmers at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show at the University of Guelph Research Farm located near Woodstock. In 2000, the event taps into technologies and practices from around the world. It will include a feature Biotech Expo, a biotechnology exhibit being developed by the University of Guelph, providing visitors with a factual explanation of the technology. The major attraction will be a live robotic milking demonstration at the Dairy Expo. Ag Expo 2000 includes major field demonstrations on practices such as tillage, crop spraying and material handling. The annual farm show will also have features on woodlots, organic agriculture, and hemp.

2000 IPM – Elora
September 19-23

Welcome to Wellington County, this year’s host for the International Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Show. The five-day event will take place south of Elora, Ontario. It’s a chance to look at farming from 1900, 1950 and 2000. The 15-acre historical area will have nine distinct sections on horse-related machinery, stationary gas engines, steam engines, farm tractors, general farm machinery, tools and displays, home antiques, industry, and automobiles and trucks. Education will be highlighted to show students how farmers grow the ingredients for what ends up on their dinner plates. Of course Wellington will be featured, with displays from municipalities in the county and a lifestyles showcase.
