New Era, New Look
It was 15 years ago when the Ontario Corn Producers’ Association developed a magazine called, “Ontario Corn Producer”.
Designed to provide the province’s corn farmers with the latest news on corn production, the corn industry, the
association, and policies and programs having an impact on your business operations, the magazine has grown in
stature and changed with the times. We’ve even gone on the Internet to increase availability. Next month we take
a step into the next century with an updated design in both the hard copy and electronic versions. We hope you
will like it.
Murray Gaunt
As we end the century and millennium, we also say good luck to one of the leading agricultural journalists in Ontario.
Murray Gaunt, who has served the farm community in so many ways over the years, particularly in western Ontario,
is retiring as the farm director at CKNX radio. It is with great admiration and respect we thank Murray for his
years of service, not only to farmers, but to helping all Ontarions understand the importance of agriculture and
the agri-food industry to the province. The question is he REALLY retiring. It’s hard to give up something you
love so much.
The Big Show
Don’t forget to put the 14th Annual Canadian International Farm Equipment Show on your agenda from February 8-11,
2000. The Y2K Toronto Farm Show will help you get ready for the 2000 growing season with more exhibits, more features
and more equipment. The show brings in more than 50,000 visitors to see the 600 exhibits and 3,000 goods and services.
Get the latest on the Internet at www.torontofarmshow.com and plan to be there.
Silage Management
If you grow silage you will want to get the Pride Corn Silage Management Handbook. The publication pulls together
all of the latest information on the subject with contributions by Jock G. Buckanan-Smith and Phil McEwen from
the University of Guelph, and Christoph Wand and Beth Wheeler who are OMAFRA nutritionists. Call 1-800-265-5280
or your local Pride dealer to get a copy.
Farm Smart 2000
Is there a topic you want to hear about. It’s most likely one of the thirty topics on the agenda at the Farm Smart
2000 Agricultural Conference at Redeemer College, Ancaster, Ontario on February 24, 2000. The feature speaker for
the conference is Brian Doidge, Ridgetown College, who will be speaking on “Consumers and Government: Their Impact
on Markets”. To register or get a brochure or more information call the Duff’s Corners OMAFRA office at (905) 527-2995
or 1 (800) 461-6184.
