The values shown in the accompanying graphs are the average Chatham Ontario board and track prices for number 2 grade corn, on a weekly basis, from 1986 to the current date. The board price is the price paid to farmers for delivered corn. The track price is the average dealer selling price.
Also shown are the nearby Chicago futures prices. Nearby means the closest Chicago futures price which is not in a delivery month. For example, 2003 July futures prices, in July 2003, are not futures prices since they occur during a delivery month. July 2003 is the nearby futures contract for corn sales in May and June 2003.
The Canada/US exchange rates are also shown as are values for the price basis. The latter is the difference between the Chatham board price, and the nearby Chicago futures price converted into Canadian dollars per bushel.
All values are expressed in dollars per bushel. The equivalent prices in dollars per metric tonne can be calculated by multiplying by the factor 39.368 bushels (bu) per tonne.
